Having undergone rapid development in a matter of two decades, Bengaluru has carved a niche, as one of the most liveable metropolises in India, both in terms of climate and opportunities. Hence, Bangalore has had a good influx of migrants from other Indian states as well as overseas expats from the global community.

The city’s exponential growth can be heavily attributed to the migrant population especially with them contributing considerably to the technological and business sectors. India’s garden city is also home to some of the best schools and colleges thus providing able & skilled work force. This is a very favourable advantage for Bangalore.

Burgeoning IT, Aerospace Industries

The cosmopolitan Bangalore has a demographic of more than 65 per cent migrants and poises itself as a city full of promises and opportunities both for locals and expats. Elena Flores, a Spanish teacher who worked in Bengaluru for two years, in an interview given to a publication says, “I find that this city is full of work opportunities for me. I have a very good job, and what I have studied during my college years, can be developed here.”

Along with some of the major Indian IT companies, many multinational giants have also started their operations here, foreseeing the city’s potential, bringing with them a large diaspora of expat population. They not only find the city, especially north Bangalore, exotic but also open-minded in comparison with some of the other Indian metropolises.

Even though Bengaluru is a plateau, it came to be known as the Silicon Valley of India due to the large number of Information Technology firms located here. With the new instalment of IT parks and research centres (such as the Shell in North Bangalore), proposal for aerospace SEZ and the 1,000-crore financial city and the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), North Bangalore is slowly and surely becoming the new favourite among professionals across the globe.

Expats’ Take on Bangalore

There is a large number of foreign nationals who call Bangalore home. And there are multiple elements that draw them to Bangalore – be it the pleasant climate, the open-minded people, international school, the growing IT, pharma and automobile sector or the existing network of expat community.

Many expats consider it a foreigner friendly city which caters to their requirements in the most memorable manner. Bengaluru also lures scholars in packs with its share of exceptional educational institutions; such as the Canadian International School, Stonehill International, Ryan International, Vidyashilp Academy, Mallya Aditi school, to name a few that are quite close to the International Airport (KIA) as well.

Being a melting pot of various cultures, overseas workers can also enjoy a variety of food, festivals or music on Bangalore’s landscape. North Bangalore offers a multitude of options – from relaxing cafes and malls to places steeped in history like the Nandi Hills and the Devanahalli Fort. The Fort at Devanahalli, for instance, was built in the year of 1501 by Mallabairegowda, a local chieftain. Now an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) protected monument, it has seen many power shifts through the centuries from local chieftains to Hyder Ali & Tipu Sultan, to Lord Cornwallis in the 18th century. And now due to the proximity to the international airport as well as the development of North Bangalore, quite a few people stop by to explore the fort.
